Music Composition

Date:TBA, 10:00 am to 3:30 pm

Our primary activities will run from 10am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday with a mini-concert for invited guests on the last day. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all sessions as some activities will build from one day to the next. The order of activities may change to accommodate student abilities and weather. Being able to play a musical instrument is a definite asset, but is not actually required for participation in this activity.

Participants will group into one or more musical ensembles which will be guided through a series of imaginative exercises leading to the creation of several pieces of music. Some theory about sound design will be covered for those that are interested. A wide variety of electronic and acoustic instruments will be available for participants to use. Time will also be spent listening to various styles of music, and making original musical instruments to take home. There will also be special guests coming to share their musical mastery. On the final Saturday we will put together a little concert for an audience of parents and invited guests.

In addition to the primary activities, there will be quiet music listening and reading from 9:00 am to 10 am each morning and a variety of popular and ancient strategy games and boardgames to play from 3pm to 5 pm. These times are available by prior arrangement and are purely optional.

Note: This adventure is most suitable for 10 – 16 year old’s. We have room for only the first 8 paid participants, so please don’t wait too long and be disappointed when you see all the fun photos.

Cost of the whole 27.5 hours is $250, including nutritious lunches, snacks throughout the day, and all admission and transportation fees.
Participants can also attend the Gaming Club at no extra cost if they are interested.

There is a $50 rebate for students registered with Avante School in the Fall.
In addition to all of the above, there is financial aid available to students in need and who sign up early enough to allow our donors to arrange it.
