Board of Directors

This is the Board of YES Education Society which runs Avante School:

LuoDr. Y Luo (Chair of the Board)

Dr Luo btained a Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in Chemistry in China and then came to Canada for postgraduate studies where he obtained a Ph. D. degree  in Chemistry. He has worked as a postdoctoral in University of Minnesota and as a research scientist at the University of British Columbia. He was invited to join the Board of Directors of Dalian Maple International School, and has been working as an independent education consultant for almost 20 years.

Dr Luo is a founding member of YES Education Inc, YES Education Society, and Avante School.

Martin Hamm has an MA in curriculum design and has been teaching in British Columbia public and independent schools for two decades. As well as teaching Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Theatre, Stagecraft, and Computers, Martin has taught Science, Music and Mathematics to 100s of students privately in the lower mainland. Mr. Hamm is the founding director of Da Capo School of Music, Cranbrook Community Band, East Kootenay Composer’s Festival, and has founded or worked with countless local theatre and musical associations. He has given workshops to other teachers in both Mathematics and Music education, and has been Department Head of Mathematics in three different schools, as well as being at different times, department Head in Music and Theatre Coordinator. As the principal of Avante school, he is an indispensable source of current information for the board.

Ms Jin has an MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and has been teaching in both Canada and China for over 20 years. She has worked as an English language teacher and an administrator as well. Ms Jin loves working with students, teachers, and parents.

Georgina F. Lohan is a Vancouver artist working in jewelry, ceramics and painting, and has a history of exhibitions in Canada, Mexico, and around the world.
Having worked in many different media and scales, from minute pieces of jewelry to 20 ft. floating lanterns for the Illuminaries Festival, set design for the Canada Ice Dance Theatre and the Capilano College Players productions of King Lear and The Crucible, costume design for the Judith Marcuse Dance Repertory of Canada, and making a great many pots, paintings, installations and mixed media pieces in between, clay has become her medium of choice. In 2007 Lohan established a studio dedicated to ceramic production.

Georgina is the founding director of the East side Culture Crawl, board member and Chair of the Exhibition Steering Committee for the AT8 Artropolis Society, Art Administrator for the Anything Goes Art Auction for the Fend Players Society, founder and director of MIA Gallery, Event Coordinator for The Surrey Art Gallery’s 25th Anniversary Celebrations, Assistant Curator for the Surrey Art Gallery, a founding director of Avenir School Society, and teaching many workshops for students from grade 1 to 12.
